A bronze Albert Einstein sits on a park bench in front of the Sitzmark at 183 Gore Creek Drive, in the middle of Vail Village, with room left beside him for you. The sculpture, simply titled Einstein, belongs to the Town of Vail's Art in Public Places collection and is one of the most photographed pieces of public art in town.

The sculptor

Einstein is by Gary Lee Price, a University of Utah-trained sculptor and member of the National Sculpture Society, and is part of his Great Contributors series. Price said he wanted an approachable, come-have-a-chat-with-a-genius gesture, and his favorite Einstein line is the one many visitors know: imagination is more important than knowledge. The town's catalog dates the bronze to 2005.

How it came to Vail

The Sitzmark's owners, Bob and Helen Fritch, placed the sculpture outside their lodge, where it stood for years before the Sitzmark donated it to the Town of Vail's collection in 2014. The town's public art coordinator said then that the plan was to keep it exactly where it had always been.
