Craniologie Vail
About
Craniologie Vail is a helmet and goggle specialist on Wall Street in Vail Village, one of the Colorado shops of a woman-owned company that started in Breckenridge in 2010. Its whole approach is fit: staff it calls Headucators measure and adjust your helmet and goggles as a pair, so the two work together on the hill.
It suits skiers and snowboarders fighting a foggy goggle or an uncomfortable helmet, anyone who wears glasses under a goggle, and parents sizing helmets for growing kids. Walk-ins are welcome; on weekends and holidays the shop recommends booking a custom fitting.
What's on the shelves
Snow helmets and goggles are the core of the Vail store, alongside snow gloves and mittens and sunglasses. Helmet brands include Smith, POC, Giro, Oakley, Sweet Protection, KASK, Anon, Atomic, Salomon and Pret, and the goggle range adds Dragon and 100%. Gloves run from Hestra and Gordini to heated models, and the shops carry some products that are not sold online.
Fitting, lenses and glasses
A fitting means measuring your head, then matching shell shape, liner and goggle frame so they sit comfortably together. Glasses wearers can try several over-the-glasses frames. If you already own a goggle, bring the frame: the shop will recommend a replacement or storm lens and install it. Youth helmets are sized with growth in mind, and staff keep notes so the next visit is quicker.
Before you go
The shop is easy to reach on the way to the mountain. Drivers should use the nearest village parking garage and allow extra time on busy days. You can also buy online and pick up in Vail. Craniologie has sister shops in Breckenridge, Frisco and Beaver Creek. Hours are in the FAQ below.
