Prescription goggles

Eye Pieces is the exclusive North American distributor of SK-X, a system that builds your prescription directly into the goggle lens, with no clip or insert. Those take 10 to 14 days to make, so order before the trip; the store can have them waiting at a mountainside location when you arrive. The quicker option is a prescription clip that fits almost any goggle, including your own, and is made in 1 to 10 days depending on the prescription. Progressive lenses are available for both.

Frames, sunglasses and sport optics

The fashion side leans toward independent and luxury labels, among them Chrome Hearts, Jacques Marie Mage, Mykita, Dita, Barton Perreira, Thierry Lasry, Tom Ford and Oliver Peoples. The sport wall covers Smith, Oakley, Anon, Sweet Protection, POC and Zeal, with helmets from brands such as Smith, Kask and Giro, which makes it a practical place to match a goggle to a helmet before heading up the hill.

Eye exams and vision benefits

Eye exams are not held at this shop. Eye Pieces books them with an independent optometrist at its Vail Village Center store on East Meadow Drive, though that exam room is closed for renovation until late November; Edwards and Basalt take appointments in the meantime. Eye Pieces is an open-access provider, so staff can help file out-of-network vision insurance claims, and FSA and HSA cards work on prescription purchases.

The company has been part of Vail for nearly 40 years. In town there are also stores at Vail Village Center, Eye Pieces Sport on East Meadow Drive and in Lionshead, with more in Beaver Creek, Edwards, Snowmass and Basalt, plus an online shop.
