For a single day on the snow, Aspen Snowmass costs less than Vail's same-day window price on every 2026/27 date compared below, but it costs more than Vail's advance price on three of the five. The gap that does not depend on the date is housing: Aspen's top end is several times higher than the Vail-area figures published.
One-day lift tickets on the same dates
Both resorts price by date. Vail posts a lower advance price beside a higher same-day price, and its lowest prices go to buyers four or more weeks ahead. Aspen Snowmass posts a single price per date for a one-day ticket. The table shows adult prices for five dates, as they stood in September 2026. Vail's figures include fees; Aspen's calendar does not say.

Two patterns show up. Aspen's price moves with the calendar as Vail's does: its one-day rate ran from $189 in late November and early December to $309 over the holidays and Presidents' Day weekend, and it dropped to $199 to $209 in the first half of April. And the cheaper resort depends on how early you buy. Vail's advance price is $37 to $115 below its window price on these dates, so a Vail skier who books ahead undercuts Aspen on the holiday and winter dates, while a Vail skier who buys at the window pays more than Aspen throughout.
Aspen's own advance-purchase discounts work differently: it lists up to 15 percent off two- and three-day tickets and up to 25 percent off tickets of four days or more when booked 30 or more days ahead (up to 10 and 20 percent at seven days ahead). Kids 6 and under ski free at Aspen Snowmass. Age bands also differ: Aspen counts adults as 18 to 64, Vail as 13 to 64, so a teenager is an adult at Vail but not at Aspen.
The tickets buy different mountains. One Aspen Snowmass ticket covers four mountains with more than 5,700 acres of skiing; Vail Mountain is one mountain of approximately 5,300 acres, the second most visited in the United States in 2024/25 according to Vail Resorts' annual report. Passes
For a week or more of skiing, a pass is the bigger decision than a day ticket. The 2026/27 Epic Pass is $1,145 for adults 31 and older, with an increase scheduled for October 7, and it covers Vail every day of the season; see the Epic Pass listing. Aspen Snowmass sells its own Premier Pass for unlimited skiing on its four mountains, plus a Flex Pass of four to seven days and a two-day Alpine Pass, with prices on its season pass page. Aspen Snowmass is also on the Ikon Pass, which starts at $1,449 for adults 23 and older, and on the Mountain Collective Pass. Ikon lists Aspen-Snowmass among six premium destinations, so check how many days your Ikon product allows there before counting on a full week.
Buying a home
Real estate is where Aspen is most clearly the more expensive town, although the published reports measure different things. The Aspen Times, citing the Estin Report, gave Aspen a 2025 median single-family sale price of $17.5 million, up 31 percent on 2024, and a median condo price of $3.175 million, up 11 percent; the report counted 42 sales above $20 million in 2025. For the Vail area, the Vail Board of Realtors' July 2026 report, as summarized by Usaj Realty, shows an average sale price of $2,684,912 across all attached and detached homes.
A median for one year and an average for one month are not interchangeable, but an average usually runs higher than a median for the same homes, so the Vail figure if anything understates the gap. Hotels and dining
Neither town's hotels or restaurants publish a rate card, and room prices in both swing with the season, room type and cancellation terms. The fair comparison is to price the same dates and room type in each town and include taxes and fees at checkout.
