The GoPro Mountain Games return to Vail from Thursday, June 10 to Sunday, June 13, 2027. Run by the Vail Valley Foundation, the four-day festival fills the town with adventure-sport competitions, live music, art and kids' activities, and watching any of it is free.

What happens

The program covers a wide spread of mountain sports, from pro contests to open categories anyone can enter:

• Water: kayak, raft and stand-up paddleboard races on Gore Creek, plus kayak freestyle
• Climbing: speed and bouldering competitions, youth categories and a kids' climbing wall
• Bike and run: dual slalom, cross-country and road hill climbs, trail races, a mud run and a dog fun run
• Dogs: DockDogs jumping and retrieving contests and shelter dog adoptions
• Everything else: a fishing contest, disc golf, yoga and a slackline invitational

Where it happens

Events spread from Golden Peak through Vail Village to Lionshead, all within walking distance of each other. Concerts use the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater among other stages. Free Town of Vail buses link the areas, but dogs are not allowed on the buses during the Games, so plan to walk if you bring yours on a leash.

Competing

Registration dates for 2027 had not opened when we checked. In past years athletes could register online until 6 pm the evening before their event, or in person at the Golden Peak Base Lodge. Entries are non-refundable and cannot be transferred, and you need photo ID to collect your bib.
