The Trick or Treat Trot is Vail's Halloween afternoon for young kids: on Saturday, October 31, 2026, from 2 to 5 pm, families trick-or-treat through the shops of Vail Village and Lionshead Village. It is free, there is nothing to register for, and this is the 34th year the Vail Recreation District has run it.

Look for an orange jack-o'-lantern leaf bag outside a shop's front door; that marks a participating merchant. You can start in either village, and the trot goes ahead rain, snow or shine, so dress costumes for the weather and bring your own reusable bag for treats.

Before the trot

The Vail Public Library hosts Be-witched with Ms. Laurine at 1 pm the same day, with not-so-scary stories about Halloween witches. The district also runs a Halloween coloring contest: entries are due Friday, October 23 and can be dropped off at the Vail Public Library, Imagination Station or Red Sandstone Elementary School, or mailed to VRD Community Programming.

Getting there

The two villages are pedestrian areas, so plan to park and walk. The town's event parking and bus information is at vaileventparking.com. The event is sponsored by Apres Cafe.
