BAO You Like It
About
BAO You Like It has no dining room. It is a bao-bun pop-up run by Mick Boland and May Yang, a husband-and-wife team who met while working at the Sonnenalp, and it turns up at hotel lounges, tasting rooms and markets around the valley. Yang grew up with her grandparents' bao and spent a week in Chengdu training with a third-generation bao master before the pop-ups began.
It suits skiers looking for a warm, filling snack after the lifts close, market browsers in summer, and anyone planning a party who wants something more personal than a catering tray. Because the venue changes, the Instagram account @baoyoulikeit is where to look before setting out.
What is in the steamer
Savory bao include Grandma's OG pork, BBQ Cantonese pork, organic beef and celery, vegan fillings, and plain bao served with homemade chili oil for dipping. Dessert bao run to red bean paste and experimental peanut, sesame and chocolate, and Boland also sells the chocolate chip cookies he has been baking for more than 15 years. Frozen bao are sold to steam at home.
Where they pop up
Recent pop-ups have included Sarah's Lounge at the Christiania Lodge, the Sitzmark, the 10th Mountain Whiskey tasting room, Archetype Distillery, the Vail Racquet Club and the Minturn Market, and the stand was booked for the Vail Farmers' Market this summer. Recent winter pop-ups ran in the afternoon, in time for après.
Private events and catering
Boland and Yang cater private events and run build-a-bao sessions, where guests fill and fold their own buns with the team's dough and fillings. That makes it a hands-on option for a family reunion, a rehearsal gathering or a group chalet night. Book by phone or through Instagram.
