Black Tie's idea is that ski gear should come to you. Reserve ahead and a technician brings skis, snowboards, boots and helmets to your hotel, condo or house in Vail or Beaver Creek, fits everyone there at a time you choose, and collects it all at the end. The Vail branch, run by Adam and Katie Bristow, also keeps a storefront in Concert Hall Plaza in West Lionshead, which doubles as the base for its summer bike rentals.

It suits families and groups who would rather not spend a first morning in a rental line, and anyone staying in a rental home some way from the lifts. In summer the same team puts e-bikes and mountain bikes at your door, or has them ready at the shop.

Winter: delivery and fitting

Book online or by phone before you arrive. The fitter tailors each package to your ability and the current snow, and the Vail fleet includes skis and boards from brands such as Atomic, Black Crows, Burton, K2 and Peak Skis. Black Tie lists delivery and custom fitting as free.

When something needs changing

If boots pinch or conditions change mid-trip, a call brings a technician to the base of the mountain or back to your lodging to adjust or swap equipment. When you are finished, Black Tie collects the gear, so nothing has to be carried back across the village.

Summer bikes from Concert Hall Plaza

The shop sits across from The Little Diner at the West Lionshead bus stop, close to the recreation path that runs the length of the valley. The fleet covers full-suspension mountain bikes, path e-bikes, cargo e-bikes that can carry a child, e-mountain bikes and junior full-suspension bikes. Bikes can be picked up at the shop or delivered anywhere from Copper to Eagle, with a two-day minimum for delivery; a helmet and lock come with every rental.

Ride to Renewal

On summer Tuesdays and Thursdays, Black Tie runs a morning that pairs outdoor yoga and a sound bath led by Sunshine Massage Studio with a guided ride tailored to the group, from an easy cruise on the recreation path to something harder. Sessions are small and open to riders 16 and older; times are in the FAQ.

Q. How does ski delivery work?+
Reserve online or call 866-360-6433. A technician brings the equipment to your lodging in Vail or Beaver Creek at the scheduled time and fits skis, boards, boots and helmets there. Black Tie lists delivery and custom fitting as free.
Q. What if my equipment needs adjusting during the trip?+
Call the Vail office at 970-748-8552. Technicians can meet you at the base of the mountain or at your lodging to make adjustments or replace equipment, and they collect everything when you are done.

Q. What bikes can I rent?+
Premium and performance full-suspension mountain bikes, path e-bikes, cargo e-bikes, front-suspension e-mountain bikes and junior full-suspension bikes. E-bike riders must be 14 or older, and pedal assist cuts out at 20 mph. Multi-day rentals are discounted.
Q. Do they deliver bikes?+
Yes, anywhere from Copper to Eagle, with a two-day minimum. You can return bikes to the shop or have them picked up. If you get a flat, a bike technician will come to you.
Q. What comes with a bike rental?+
A bike, a standard helmet and a lock. Full-face helmets and knee and elbow pads cost extra. An optional damage waiver of $10 a day covers up to $500 of damage. Your card is charged on the day of the reservation.
Q. What is the cancellation policy?+
Black Tie gives a full refund for cancellations made more than 48 hours in advance. Bike cancellations within 48 hours are not refunded; for winter changes inside 48 hours, contact the Vail office directly.
Q. What is Ride to Renewal?+
A three-hour summer morning on Tuesdays and Thursdays, July through September. Check in at the Concert Hall Plaza shop at 8:30 a.m., then a 60-minute outdoor yoga and sound bath with Sunshine Massage Studio on a rooftop deck at The Landmark, followed by a guided ride from about 10:30 a.m. to noon. It is capped at 10 guests, open to ages 16 and up, and includes an ice cream cone from AlpenDogs.
