Joe's Famous Deli and Homemade Ice Cream
About
Joe's Famous Deli pairs two things Vail Village is short on: handmade ice cream and a proper deli sandwich. It has been on Bridge Street for more than two decades, making its own ice cream from fresh cream and building sandwiches around beef it roasts in house.
It suits families, skiers who want a breakfast burrito before the lifts, and anyone wandering the village who wants a cone or a quick lunch rather than a sit-down meal.
Ice cream made on site
The case holds 24 old-fashioned flavors, made with fresh berries, roasted nuts, fudge brownies and Madagascar vanilla. Beyond cones and cups there are shakes, floats, brownie sundaes and the Ultimate Banana Split, and hand-packed pints and quarts to take back to the condo freezer.
Sandwiches
The Reuben is the house signature: corned beef, Swiss, sauerkraut and Russian dressing. Joe's Famous Philly uses beef roasted in house, the Norwegian stacks smoked salmon and cream cheese on a bagel, and the long list runs through a Cubano, hot pastrami, an Italian and several vegetarian choices.
Breakfast and warm drinks
Breakfast runs until 11:30 a.m., with burritos such as the Powder Day and a huevos rancheros version with pork green chile, Belgian waffles and egg sandwiches. Coffee, chai and hot chocolate cover a cold morning, and an espresso martini or carajillo covers the afternoon.
Planning a stop
Joe's is at 288 Bridge Street, in the pedestrian core, so no car is needed from village lodging. Orders can also be placed online for pickup. Joe's says it has been voted Vail's Best in multiple years. Prices are in the FAQ below.
