La Bottega
About
Stephen and Elisabetta Virion opened La Bottega on Meadow Drive in November 1997. Stephen cooked his way through New York, Chicago, Zurich, Vienna and Paris; Elisabetta comes from Asiago and worked in the Italian wine trade. Their northern Italian restaurant has grown through several expansions into a Tuscan-style space of rustic stone columns, imported wood floors and Italian tile.
The draw is choice. The sunny patio suits après, the intimate wine bar suits two people who want a bottle and a few plates, and the dining room works for a family dinner, a date or a business meal.
The menu
The dinner menu runs from salads and antipasti such as beef carpaccio with truffle cream to stone-oven pizzas in 6- or 12-inch sizes, pastas including spaghetti carbonara, white truffle gnocchi and lobster ravioli, and mains like veal scallopine Marsala, braised wagyu short ribs and orange and grappa glazed duck. Gluten-free pasta is available. The full dinner menu is also served at lunch, alongside subs, panini and bruschetta, and there is a separate truffle menu.
The wine list
The list runs to several hundred bottles and is strongest in Italian reds, with whole sections for Barbera, the Veneto, Sangiovese and Super Tuscans, plus Champagne, magnums, and Spanish, French and California bottles. A shorter by-the-glass list covers Lambrusco, Gavi, Chianti Classico and a Super Tuscan.
Before you go
Smaller parties can book online months ahead, while groups of seven or more go through the restaurant directly. Plan for a 20% discretionary service charge plus a smaller culinary team charge on every check, and note that separate checks are not offered. Online ordering is available for takeout. The FAQ has the details.
Groups and private events
La Bottega takes private events in three sizes: the semi-private wine bar for up to 45, a private room for up to 26, and the whole restaurant for up to 130. That range makes it an option for rehearsal dinners and company evenings as well as family birthdays.
Sister businesses
Delizioso, the family's European-style market and deli, is next door to the east, and is the place for coffee, breakfast sandwiches, gelato and groceries. The same team also opened Barrio Social on Meadow Drive for Spanish and Portuguese tapas and paella.
