Two ways to eat

On the square side, a quick-service walk-up bar feeds people who want to eat outdoors and keep moving. On the mountain side and the patio, the Tavern runs a reservations-only à la carte service. Knowing which one you want saves a wait at peak times.

The menu

The kitchen, led by executive chef Nick Steger, cooks contemporary American food with local ingredients and menus that change with the season. Breakfast runs from buttermilk pancakes and an avocado toast to a chorizo and green chile burrito and a dozen cinnamon-sugar donut holes, with smoothies on the side. There is a full bar, gluten-free options and takeout.

On the patio

Beyond the view, the patio has an outdoor fire pit, and in summer the Tavern has booked live music on the patio from Thursday to Sunday afternoons.

At The Arrabelle

The Arrabelle at Vail Square is the Vail Resorts RockResort hotel that houses the Tavern, steps from the Eagle Bahn Gondola.

The Belle is the Arrabelle's grab-and-go coffee counter and bakery, for a latte and pastry on the way to the gondola.

The RockResorts Spa at The Arrabelle offers massages and treatments; book through the spa at (970) 754-7754. It has no VailVacay listing.

Vail Square is the plaza the Tavern overlooks, with shops around it.
