The Wren is a condominium lodge on the South Frontage Road in the Golden Peak neighborhood, at the east end of Vail Village. Its condos are individually owned, and many are sold as interval weeks, but the lodge rents them nightly with a front desk, a concierge and a winter skier shuttle, which gives a stay here the space of a condo with the ease of a small hotel.

It suits families with children in Golden Peak ski school, groups who want a kitchen and a fireplace, and summer visitors heading to concerts at the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater or a walk through Betty Ford Alpine Gardens, both a short walk away. The Wren calls itself the closest vacation rental to the Ford Park fields.

The condos

Layouts run from a 600-square-foot studio with a Murphy bed to a 1,275-square-foot three-bedroom with a den that sleeps up to eight. Every unit has a full kitchen and a gas fireplace, most have balconies, and views look out to the Gore Range, Golden Peak or Vail Mountain depending on the unit. One-bedroom units come with two bathrooms, which helps when friends share.

Pool and gathering spaces

The heated outdoor pool is open year-round, with two hot tubs beside it and a communal area with three gas grills and shuffleboard. On Tuesdays the lodge hosts a welcome party with wine and cheese in winter and a barbecue in summer, and the front desk puts out coffee in the morning and lemonade or cider in the afternoon.

Getting to the lifts

The Wren is not ski-in/ski-out. Skiers can walk to the Golden Peak Riva Bahn chairlift or Gondola One, or take the complimentary winter shuttle. Vail Village dining and shopping is about five minutes on foot, and parking on site is free, though the lodge suggests arriving by shuttle because the village is built for walking.

Extra guests are $25 per person per night, and state and local taxes apply. Rollaways and cribs cost extra and should be requested at booking. Daily housekeeping is available at extra charge; stays of 5 or more nights get a mid-week towel change, trash removal and light vacuum.

Yes, on-site parking is complimentary. The lodge still recommends a group shuttle or private transport, which the concierge can arrange, because Vail Village is designed for pedestrians.
