No single Vail hotel is the best place to stay, but there is a best fit for each kind of trip, and the deciding facts are concrete: how far the hotel is from a lift, whether the unit has a kitchen, whether dogs are allowed, and what resort fees and parking add to the rate. Ski week: how close is close enough
Ski access is where the hotels differ most, and the claims are easy to misread. Vail Resorts describes the Lodge at Vail and the Arrabelle as ski-in/ski-out, steps from Gondola One and the Eagle Bahn Gondola respectively. Christiania Lodge claims the shortest distance in the Village, 20 steps from Gondola One. Beyond that come walking distances: two minutes from Austria Haus, three to four from Gasthof Gramshammer, five from Manor Vail and five to ten from The Sebastian, where guests use a guest-only Base Camp. In Lionshead, Antlers is 150 yards from the Eagle Bahn Gondola and Lodge at Lionshead under 200 yards.

Two hotels offer their own version of ski-in/ski-out. Four Seasons runs a guest-only Chalet at the base of the mountain, a short walk or shuttle ride from the hotel and closed from April to early June and from Labor Day to November 13. The Grand Hyatt in Cascade Village skis from Chair 20, operated by Vail Resorts, and is just over a mile from the villages, with a complimentary guest shuttle. At the far end, Highline Vail in West Vail is a 6 to 8 minute drive from the ski resort, and Vail Racquet Club in East Vail is 15 to 20 minutes by free bus to the Vail Transportation Center. Families and groups who need a kitchen
- Manor Vail Lodge puts a full kitchen, gas fireplace and balcony in all 90 residences, includes breakfast for guests and has two heated pools. It is a short stroll from Golden Peak Ski School but not ski-in/ski-out; the Manor Vail guide has the rooms and dining.
- Lodge at Lionshead has a full kitchen in every condo and kitchenettes in select studios, with one parking space per unit and a complimentary pack 'n play. Vail Village is a 10 to 15 minute walk or a shuttle ride away. Pets are not permitted.
- Antlers at Vail lets children 15 and under stay free, has a pool and two hot tubs open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., and its units have full kitchens. There is no restaurant, so plan on cooking or ordering chef-prepared meals 48 hours ahead. Guests must be 21 or older to check in.
- The Sebastian - Vail has one- to four-bedroom residences with gourmet kitchens, a game room with arcade games and a Tykes Room for children 4 and under.
- Vail Racquet Club offers one- to three-bedroom condominiums and three-bedroom townhomes, each with a full kitchen, plus a playground, a barbecue patio and no added fee for children. Its units have no air conditioning, and buildings have stair towers only.
- Grand Hyatt Vail offers connecting rooms and family suites, an arcade and game room, cribs, highchairs and kids' menus. Sonnenalp lets children 12 and under stay free (up to two) and runs a Kids Club for ages 5 to 12 by reservation, Tuesday to Saturday evenings, at $35 an hour per child.
Traveling with a dog
Dog policies vary more than most guests expect. Where dogs are accepted, the terms differ:
- The Sebastian welcomes dogs for a fee, and Gravity Haus has dog-ready rooms with pet fees paid at booking (none for members).
- Tivoli Lodge takes dogs in limited rooms at $100 per pet per stay, two at most. Highline Vail allows up to two dogs at $100 each, one time.
- Grand Hyatt Vail charges $150 for stays of up to six nights, plus $50 more from seven nights, with a limit of two dogs and 70 pounds each.
- Evergreen Lodge charges $40 plus tax a night and accepts only dogs, in ground-floor rooms. Antlers accepts pets in about 20 percent of its units at $50 plus tax per pet a night.
- Four Seasons allows pets under 25 pounds, but not in the private residences.
Sonnenalp and Austria Haus accept service animals only, and Christiania, Lodge at Lionshead, Vail Racquet Club and Solaris do not accept pets.
A summer trip
Summer changes the equation. Ski-in/ski-out claims stop mattering, and Four Seasons' Chalet is closed through mid-November. Pools matter more: Evergreen Lodge's is open in summer only, while Manor Vail, Antlers and The Sebastian keep theirs open year-round. Parking also becomes a real cost, because the town's Vail Village and Lionshead structures charge $2 an hour to a $10 maximum and $45 overnight in summer 2026. That makes included parking, as at Lodge at Lionshead, Evergreen Lodge and Highline, worth counting. Manor Vail puts Ford Park, the Gerald R. Keeping the total down
Hotels here do not post a fixed nightly rate, so the comparison that holds is what sits on top of it. Lodge Tower and Antlers charge no resort fee, and Lodge Tower includes breakfast and covered parking. Highline's $45 daily fee covers parking, Wi-Fi and the shuttle, Evergreen's $35 plus tax includes one parking space, and the Grand Hyatt adds a $68 daily resort fee, with self-parking from $18 and valet from $62.
