Vail's summer is a set of overlapping windows rather than one open-all-summer resort. Vail Mountain's gondolas run from mid-June to late September, the Sunday farmers' market from mid-June to early October, and each festival has its own weekends. Hiking season runs May to November. Most of these are annual events, so the 2026 calendar below works as a planning pattern; dates shift each year, and the sections after it link to the organizers where current dates and prices are posted.

Gondolas and Adventure Ridge
Gondola One (Vail Village) and the Eagle Bahn Gondola (Lionshead) carry hikers, bikers and sightseers. The 2026 offers were free scenic rides for Epic Pass holders, one free child scenic ticket with each paid adult scenic ticket, a $30 lunch voucher added to a scenic ticket for $25 to spend at the top, and 10 percent off a scenic ticket bundled with a coaster ride. Adventure Ridge, the activity area at the top of the Eagle Bahn Gondola, is also known as Epic Discovery. Its 2026 lineup:
- the Forest Flyer, a gravity-driven alpine coaster where riders control their own speed on individual sleds;
- a summer tubing hill, the Paramount Peak climbing wall (36 feet of rock face) and a bungee trampoline;
- the Little Eagle Zipline, for children aged five and older weighing 30 to 100 pounds;
- Gore Creek Mini Golf, a nine-hole course in front of the Lionshead summer ticket office;
- the Nature Discovery Center, a yurt at Eagle's Nest with free guided nature walks run with the Forest Service and Walking Mountains Science Center.
Eating at the top of the Eagle Bahn Gondola means Eagle's Nest Marketplace, Talon's Deck Outdoor Grill and Bistro Fourteen, a bar for cocktails and views; Mid-Vail Grill is at the top of Gondola One. Hours narrow at the end of the season: in the Friday-to-Sunday weeks of September 11 to 27, 2026, Bistro 14 was bar service only and Mid-Vail Grill was open 10:30 am to 3 pm. On seven Sundays from July 12 to August 30, 2026, The 10th at the top of Gondola One served a brunch with a live DJ from 10 am to 2 pm, and a brunch reservation included lift access.
Hiking and biking from Vail Village and Lionshead
These routes start from the villages or the gondola tops on Vail Mountain:
- Berrypicker: an intermediate, steep climb of 3.2 miles from Vail Village or Lionshead up to Eagle's Nest, through aspens and wildflowers. See the Berry Picker Trail guide and the Berrypicker Trail listing.
- Cabin Trail: 2.1 miles, intermediate, up to Mid-Vail.
- Eagle's Loop (1 mile, a ridge-top loop with views of Mount of the Holy Cross) and Fireweed Loop (1 mile, between Eagle's Nest and Mid-Vail), both with interpretive elements developed with the Forest Service and Walking Mountains.
Vail Mountain has more than 40 miles of mountain bike trails, from the 2.6-mile Sidekick to Golden Gate, a challenging beginner descent from Mid-Vail, to the 5.9-mile Grand Traverse single-track across the Back Bowls from Eagle's Nest. Betty Ford Alpine Gardens, markets and the villages
Betty Ford Alpine Gardens covers five acres in Ford Park at 8,200 feet, open daily from dawn to dusk with free admission and a $20 suggested donation. It is the only botanical garden in North America dedicated to conserving alpine plants, and it is billed as the highest-elevation botanical garden in the world. Vail Village and Lionshead Village are compact and walkable, and the Vail Farmers' Market and Art Show fills Vail Village streets on summer Sundays.
Music, dance and festivals
The Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater hosts a summer-long headliner concert series with covered reserved seating or general-admission lawn seating; the schedule is on Discover Vail's summer page. Fishing, paddling and golf
Gore Creek runs through the middle of Vail, and its Gold Medal section is a draw for fly-fishers. Access points along the creek include Vail Nature Center, Ford Park, Antlers Lodge, Donovan Park and the Grand Hyatt; the creek is narrow, so waders are a good idea. The Eagle River holds wild brown and rainbow trout. A Colorado fishing license is required depending on your age, and a guide supplies rods and waders. Vail Golf Club is an 18-hole, par 71 course at 1775 Sunburst Drive, run by the Vail Recreation District and open to the public, with Grill on the Gore as its restaurant.
Weather and where to stay
NOAA's 1991–2020 monthly normals for the Vail station give average highs of 71.4°F in June, 76.7°F in July and 74.0°F in August, with average lows of 35.6°F, 41.6°F and 40.8°F.
