Location and lifts

The Eagle Bahn Gondola and the Born Free Express lift are within walking distance: roughly 200 yards, or about five minutes in ski boots. It is not ski-in/ski-out. Lionshead's restaurants and shops are on the doorstep, Vail Village is about a ten-minute walk or a ride on the free Town of Vail bus, and paved trails start right outside.

The condos

Units are rated Platinum or Diamond, the Diamond condos having the most upscale finishes. Each has a full kitchen, a gas fireplace, a dining area and a balcony or patio, and many have partial views of Vail Mountain. A typical one-bedroom is about 760 square feet with a king bed and a queen sofa sleeper; two-bedroom units run about 1,145 square feet. There is no air conditioning, though bedrooms have fans and the nights cool down.

In the building

A heated outdoor saline pool and hot tub, with towels provided, are the après spot. There is a ski room with overnight boot dryers off the lobby, coin-operated laundry on every floor, a lobby business center and Wi-Fi in each condo. Parking for one car per condo is included in a heated, gated underground garage. Lionshead Liquors is in the same building, and Ski Base in the nearby Landmark building offers guests a rental discount.

Before you book

Montaneros is non-smoking and does not accept pets, other than documented service dogs. The lead guest must be 25 or older, and quiet hours run from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. A resort fee and a damage-waiver fee are added to the rate, and deposits and cancellation deadlines are stricter around the holidays and in winter. Groups and weddings

Group bookings cover ski clubs, family reunions, small company retreats and wedding guests, with a mix of condo sizes to suit different budgets and easy walks to Vail's wedding venues. The group sales team handles room blocks.
