Sandstone Creek Club is a 62-condominium timeshare resort on Vail View Drive, beside the creek it is named for, across the interstate from Lionshead. It also rents units by the night or week, and the range under one roof is unusually wide: a hotel room with a king bed for two, studios with their own kitchens, and loft condos that sleep up to ten.

It suits families, friend groups and anyone who would rather spend on lift tickets than on a village address. You give up walking to the lifts; in return you get free parking, a year-round creekside pool and a winter shuttle that has you in Lionshead in about five minutes.

Condos and rooms

The resort was built in three phases from 1979 and has been updated since, with granite kitchens, gas fireplaces and a balcony or patio in the condos. Studios cost the same as a hotel room but add a full kitchen and living area. One-bedroom lofts sleep eight and the few two-bedroom lofts sleep ten, with three bathrooms each. Bedding varies by unit, so say what you need when you book, and ask for a washer and dryer if it matters: they are in Buildings 2 and 3, while Building 1 shares a free laundry room.

Pool, sports and the clubhouse

The indoor/outdoor pool sits on the creek, is kept warm enough to swim in winter and has a lift. Two indoor hot tubs, a steam room and a sauna sit with it. Upstairs in the lobby building are a clubhouse with a pool table, a game room, a library and an exercise room. Summer adds tennis, pickleball, basketball, volleyball, mini-golf, disc golf and horseshoes, and racquetball is listed as well.

Getting to the mountain

This is not a walk-to-lift address. When Vail Mountain is open, a free shuttle leaves from in front of the lobby, stops in Lionshead and then Vail Village, and picks you up where it dropped you. The free Town of Vail bus stops at the top of the driveway year-round, so many guests park on arrival and leave the car.

Before you book

Q. Where is Sandstone Creek Club?+
At 1020 Vail View Drive, beside Sandstone Creek on the north side of the interstate from Lionshead. The resort's winter shuttle reaches Lionshead in about 5 minutes and Vail Village about 5 minutes after that.
Q. Is Sandstone Creek Club ski-in/ski-out?+
No. It is a shuttle or bus ride from the lifts. A free resort shuttle runs when Vail Mountain is open, every half hour at peak times and hourly otherwise, from in front of the lobby to Lionshead and then Vail Village. The free Town of Vail bus stops at the top of the driveway year-round.
Q. What unit types are there?+
Hotel rooms and studios sleep 2, then one-bedroom condos, one-bedroom lofts with three bathrooms that sleep up to 8, two-bedroom condos, and two-bedroom lofts with three bathrooms that sleep up to 10. Studios are priced the same as hotel rooms but include a full kitchen, gas fireplace and sofa bed.
Q. What do rooms cost?+
The reservations page lists rates by season. In winter they run from $170 for a hotel room early and late in the season to $680 for a two-bedroom loft over Christmas and New Year. In summer they run from $125 to $270. There are no resort fees. Extra guests aged 11 and over are $10 each; children 10 and under sharing with parents stay free.
Q. Why do stays run Saturday to Saturday?+
Sandstone is a timeshare with Saturday check-in and check-out, so reservations that cross a Saturday may require a room move. Peak periods may carry a minimum stay. The resort says it often has last-minute availability, so call (970) 476-4405 for short-notice trips.
Q. What are the check-in, deposit and cancellation terms?+
Check-in is 4 p.m. and checkout 10 a.m. Arrivals between 11 p.m. and 1 a.m. pay a $75 late check-in fee, and after 1 a.m. $300. Half the total is due 10 days after booking and the balance 30 days before arrival (60 days for holidays). Cancelling 30 or more days out (60 at Christmas) refunds everything less $100 per unit; later cancellations forfeit all payments.
Q. Is parking free?+
Yes. Parking is free with a pass from the front desk. The lower lot takes up to 2 passes per unit and extra vehicles park on top of the parking structure; some covered spaces are first come, first served. A dual ChargePoint Level 1 EV charger on the top deck takes credit cards.
Q. Are pets allowed?+
No. Service animals are welcome; emotional support animals do not qualify.
Q. What amenities are included?+
