Rooms

There are just under 40 rooms, from standard doubles and kings to riverside rooms over Gore Creek, studio and king apartments, a family suite with a kitchenette and a penthouse apartment. No two are decorated alike, with down comforters, original art and hand-carved wood throughout, and each room looks toward the mountain, the village above Bridge Street and the Children's Fountain, or the creek. Several rooms connect. There is no air conditioning, so on a summer booking it is worth asking for one of the quieter, cooler rooms.

Location and skiing

The hotel sits in the pedestrian heart of Vail Village, and the slopes are a three- to four-minute walk away, so it is close but not ski-in/ski-out. Ski storage is free, the family ski shop opens off the lobby, and the free Town of Vail bus stops just outside the entrance. Pepi's name is on the mountain too: Pepi's Face on the front side, and Forever in the Back Bowls, which he named after hiking it before there were lifts.

Breakfast, wellness and Wedel Weeks

A continental breakfast in the main dining room is included with every room. Guests also have a fitness room, a jacuzzi, sauna and steam room, and the front desk books massages. The hotel runs Pepi's Wedel Weeks, a five-day ski program in the Austrian tradition that Pepi started with the Vail Ski School in 1985.

Before you book

Covered parking is limited, charged by the day and allocated first come, first served, and large SUVs, trucks and vans do not fit the garage. There is no EV charging on site. Pets are not accepted and the hotel is non-smoking. Times and charges are in the FAQ below.

Restaurants, bar and shop in the hotel

Pepi's Bar & Restaurant is the hotel's own restaurant, open to the public for lunch and dinner. The main dining room serves Austrian dishes such as Wienerschnitzel, Jägerschnitzel and Hungarian veal goulash alongside American plates. The bar pours Austrian beers, has local musicians for après and evenings, and keeps Pepi's racing medals on its wall of fame, and the heated covered deck serves lunch, dinner and après year-round. Book through OpenTable or the restaurant's phone line.

The Antlers Room is the hotel's winter-only dining room, known for wild game and tableside service such as steak tartare and Caesar salad for two or more. It suits a celebration dinner more than a quick meal, and it is booked through the same restaurant line as Pepi's.

Pepi Sports, which the Gramshammers opened in 1968, is reached from the hotel lobby. The lower level is a full-service ski shop with ski, snowboard and touring rentals and custom boot fitting, plus bikes and e-bikes in summer; the main floor sells ski and sportswear, and the second floor is a women's boutique. Hotel guests get 10% off merchandise and 20% off ski and bike rentals.
