The breakfast

The hotel's posted buffet menu covers eggs cooked to order, omelets and Benedicts, chilaquiles and breakfast burritos, pancakes, waffles and beignets, muesli and yogurt, charcuterie, cheese and a pastry spread. Lavazza coffee, Ronnefeldt loose teas, juices and hot chocolate are part of the buffet; espresso drinks, fresh-squeezed juices and mimosas are extra.

Timing

Breakfast starts at 7 a.m., early enough for first chair, and runs an hour later on Sundays for a slower morning. There is no need to book; walk in.

Ludwig's Elevated Dining

From mid-December to late March, Ludwig's reopens in the evenings, Wednesday to Sunday, as an intimate fine-dining room with European technique, Colorado ingredients and plates meant for sharing. Unlike breakfast, it requires a reservation, and it hosts buffets on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year's Eve.

Private events

The Terrace, the adjoining Sun Room and the Stüberl, with its German wooden beams, are also used for weddings and private events booked through the hotel.

Inside the Sonnenalp

Sonnenalp Vail is the family-owned hotel at 20 Vail Road, beside Gore Creek in Vail Village, that runs Ludwig's. It has suites, a spa with indoor and outdoor pools, and several restaurants and bars, all open to visitors as well as hotel guests.

Swiss Chalet is the hotel's chalet-style dinner room for fondue, raclette and schnitzel. It suits families and groups who want a long, shared meal; reservations are recommended.

Bully Ranch is the casual one, with burgers, brick-oven pizzas, American and Southwestern plates and a patio, open from lunch through dinner. Walk-ins are welcome.

Treff Café is the hotel's European-style café and bar for espresso, pastries, sandwiches and paninis, with patio seating.

King's Club (hotel page) is the fireside bar, with cocktails, wine, German beer and live music on set nights. Seating is first come, first served. It has no VailVacay listing.

Sonnenalp Spa offers massages and treatments and the hotel's indoor and outdoor pools along Gore Creek.
