Lionshead or Vail Village?
Vail has two main base villages. Vail Village, around Gondola One, has the Bavarian-style streets, most of the restaurants and the busiest après. Lionshead, to the west around the Eagle Bahn Gondola, has more condos and family-size units, Vail Square with its winter ice rink, and many buildings that are a short walk from the lift. If you want the village atmosphere at your door, compare the Vail Village hotels by distance to Gondola One. For every neighborhood, see our guide to where to stay in Vail.

Tips for booking a Lionshead stay
- Read “ski-in/ski-out” carefully. Only a few Lionshead buildings describe themselves that way. Most are a short walk, and many offer ski lockers or a ski valet at the gondola.
- Check parking and fees. Some buildings include a garage space or free parking and some don’t. Compare the total price on the booking page.
- Book holiday weeks early. Thanksgiving, Christmas to New Year and Presidents’ Day weekend fill first. See Vail in December and Thanksgiving in Vail for what’s on.
